THE PROPOSAL FOR FILM “NANKING”
I heard from the news that the documentary film “Nanking” was produced and this film would be seen for the first time in Sundance Film Festival(Jan.18-) . This film’s producer is Mr.Ted Leonsis. According to his words, He was impressed to read Iris Chang’s “The Rape of Nanking” and he decided to make film “Nanking” on the basis of “The Rape of Nanking”. Is Mr.Ted Leonsis enough naive to be deceived by the fiction? or he doesn’t have any knowledge about Japanese history and Japanese culture? 
Mr.Ted Leonsis seems to be tender…
“The Rape of Nanking” was published in 1997 and sold over 500,000 in the United States. 
After that, this book’s author, Iris Chang planed to publish this book also in Japanese. However she abandoned the plan on the way of translation. The main cause is that more than 90 errors were pointed out from people who were interested in Nanking Incident. “All of photos that Iris used were fake” “Things are different from the fact.” “Lack of knowledge on Japanese culture.” “the strong inferior complex to Japan” …etc. If this book was published in Japanese, so many Japanese would know this book’s strangeness and so many Japanese might have noticed that Nanjing Massacre was just only fantasy earlier. Anyway, this book is utterly out of common sense as low level as Japanese people are surprised to read. I wrote the following proposal on this film and sent to his blog, but he did not accept it.

I have the proposal on your film “Nanking” in order to constructively dialogue. The proposal is…Could you please put descriptions on each photo that your film used? Each description mainly includes the following things,
1) When was the photo taken?
2) Who took the photo?
3) Where was the photo taken?
I believe the essence of documentary film is the journalistic mind. The journalistic mind appears the attitude to search for the truth. To pursue the truth to the greatest extent possible is the achievement of the documentary film. The finest documentary films have been evaluated from viewpoint of achievement level how they approached the truth.
To pursue the truth needs “details”. “Details” that I want to say here is just “description” on each photograph. In case that you could not find the above 3 (when/who/where) though you made effort to search for them, you should put descriptions “UNKNOWN” on each photo. It is necessary to put them on each photo in order to be fair.
If you use those photos without descriptions “UNKNOWN” though you could not find the above 3 (when/who/where), your documentary film will be out of the journalistic mind. In short, your documentary film will be evaluated not as documentary film but as a kind of propaganda film. It is forecasted that many people who are pursuing the truth of “Nanking Incident” will criticize your attitude at time of interview after your film’s screening. I would appreciate if you could accept the above my proposal on your film sincerely if possible.
Film”Nanking”をプロデュースしたテッド・レオンシス。08年1月18日からアメリカで開催されるサンダンス映画祭で初公開される。映画の構成は、南京市民20数万人を日本軍の暴虐から救った南京の欧米人たちの人間愛にあふれた献身的な活動をインタビューと当時の記録フィルムによって追っていく。特にナチス党員であったジョン・ラーべの日記に焦点が当てられるらしい。はっきり言って、杉原千畝をそっくり焼き直したようなお話に仕上げられているのかもしれない。すでにFilm”Nanking”の公式ホームページでは南京事件とは関係のない写真が使用されている。

PHOTOS OF NANKING MASSACRE
Most of pictures that China has been alleging for evidences of “Nanking Massacre” are either “FAKE” or “FABRICATED” photographs. All pictures aren’t relate to “Nanking Massacer”. Most of pictures that China has been alleging for evidences of “Nanking Massacre” were used as “War-Time Propaganda during Japan-Sino War(1937-1945)” Chiang Kaishek’s Nationalist Party set up the publicity department in order to whip up war sentiment against Japan. The publicity department fabricated many pictures to indicate Japanese soldiers’ brutalities. So, there isn’t any photograph to indicate Japanese soldiers’ brutalities in fact.“The Rape of Nanking” which Iris Chang wrote is earthy novel. This book was published in 1997 in America. But this book has not been published in Japanese. Iris Chang planned to publish this book also in Japanese and asked a publisher, however, Iris Chang was pointed out more than 90 errors in Japanese history. In addition, all of photos inserted in this book have been exposed to be either fakes. So, “The Rape of Nanking” could not be published in Japanese. If “The Rape of Nanking” had been published in Japanese, many Japanese would have read this book and “The Rape of Nanking” would have been famous book for incredibly funny story among Japanese. Because “The Rape of Nanking” contains more than 90 errors that even Japanese elementary school pupils could see. If “The Rape of Nanking” had been published in Japanese, many Japanese would have known that “The Rape of Nanking” was a earthy novel earlier. 
The Alleged ‘Nanking Massacre’

All 143 pictures that China has been splashing as “Nanking Massacre’s photographs” all over the media have already been exposed to be either “FAKE” or photographs not relate to Nanking Incident. There is not photographs relate to “Nanking Massacre” in fact. That is to say, there is not evidence at all. We who should understand “testimonies are not evidences” and “testimonies always require credibility in modern society. These 143 photographs are featured in Iris Chang’s “The Rape of Nanking”. 
Higashi-nakano Shudo and other Japanese historians have been inspecting each 143 photographs in these ten They have been scrutinizing each photograph and they have cleaned up each photograph’s “when” and “place of rigin” and “purpose”. As a result, they proved there was no picture related to “Nanking Massacre”. Most Japanese are indignant with China for her cowardly propaganda that Imperial Japanese Army massacred 300,000 Chinese people in Nanking of 1937. Nanking Massacre Memorial Hall was opened in 1985. The publication of Iris Chang’s “The Rape of Nanking” in America was 1997. What had China been doing for 50 years even though Nanking Massacre is supposed to have happened in 1937. Mao Zedong did NEVER ONCE make any mention of Nanking Massacre in life.
中国が南京大虐殺の証拠として掲示した写真やフィルムを見ていて、とにかく変な日本兵が登場するフィルムや写真が多すぎるよ。なんて思いながら見ていた中国が作った南京大虐殺のプロパガンダ・フィルムの中でほんの数秒ほど数人の日本兵が中国人の死体を引きずりながら走っていくシーン、日本兵の姿は後ろ姿しかわからないが、その大きなリュック、とても変。形も変。こんなリュックを日本兵は背負ってたかあ？なんて思って、他のビデオを見ていたら中国国民党軍の行進のシーンがあって気づいた。あっ、気づいてしまった。あのとても大きな変な形をしたリュックは、実は国民党軍のものじゃないの？って。後でよくよく比較検討して、重箱の隅を突くような真似をしてあげよう。とにかく、中国のプロパガンダ映画のディテールの弱さは致命的だな。（このプロパガンダ映画の中国人の死体を引きずりながら走っていくシーンの後に、人を生き埋めにして、そこを兵士が皆で被せた土を踏み固めているシーンが登場。なんとも発想が稚拙すぎます。まあ、これが中国のレベルなのです。）

THE NEWS OF NANJING MASSACRE
The person who believe Nanking Massacre without any doubt often says the following things, “When Nanking Massacre happened in December of 1937, American and European International Press reported it to the world. People in the world were surprised to hear the cruelty of Nanking Massacre took place in Far East.” Who reported it? What international press agency reported it? Can you answer it? Nobody can answer it. Because there is not international press agency that reported Nanking Incident at all.
この南京安全区国際委員会のメンバーのひとりひとりの顔を、しげしげと眺めると、まあなんとも人相の悪い連中ばかりが集まったものだと思う。人相から判断して、一発で信頼できない連中だと思うよ。「南京のシンドラー」だっけ？そんな崇高な顔をしている奴なんて写真の中に居やしない。少しは気の利いた顔の奴はいないのかよと言いたくもなる。

THE TRUTH OF NANJING MASSACRE
When did the world know ”Nanking Incident” for the first time? It is 1946, Nanking Incident was informed at Tokyo Trials(The International Military Tribunal for the Far East: 1946 – 1948, or Judgement at Tokyo). Nanking Incident is said to have happened in December of 1937. And yet, China insisted that more than 200,000 people were slaughtered. Why China did not insist on it for 9 years? Why the world did not know it for 9 years? Why Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not refer it at all?
The United States burnt out main towns in Japan by bombing. The United States dropped 2 different types of atomic bomb upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki. More than 500,000 citizens were victims of US Air Force’s bombing. Most of these victims were Noncombatants included innocent children, women and elder people. It is the fact that US Air Force bombed upon Japanese citizens deliberately on the pretext of reducing Japanese fighting spirit. This is utterly unlawful at International Law. The United States needed to make Japan “Cruel Villain” in order to justify having dropped the atomic bomb. The United States needed “Nanking Massacre”.
日本の歴史教科書での「原爆投下」についての記述は、あまりに奇妙だと思う。「8月6日、広島に人類最初の原爆が投下された」 よく見慣れた文なのだが、変だよね。あたかも原爆が自分の意思で空から落下してきたかのような記述。つまり、本当の主語がない。「アメリカが広島に原爆を投下した」と主語をきちんと明確にして書けばいいのに。ある終戦特集の（終戦という言い方も変だが）討論番組に被爆者の方が出演されておられた。その方が「日本が軍国主義だったから、A級戦犯が戦争を止めなかったから、お終いには原爆が自分のたちの頭の上に落とされたのだ」と発言された。軍国主義が原爆を落としたんじゃない。A級戦犯が原爆を落としたんじゃない。アメリカが落としたんです。

BRAINWASH OF NANJING MASSACRE
There are so many person who believe the existence of Nanking Incident without any doubt. I belived it, too…until 8 years ago. But, after I knew there is not photos to prove Nanking Incident in fact and nobody witnessed any murders in fact, I began to doubt wether Nanking Incident took place actually. However, I could not believe that Nanking Incident was just only fantasy. It took a little bit long time until I was completely free from brainwash. David Spector in the video shows us the process of becoming to be free from brainwash as well as I experienced 8 years ago.
いったん洗脳の呪縛に陥ってしまった人間。南京大虐殺を信じていた自分も、「南京大虐殺なんて、実は無かったんだよ」と、ある人から言われて、「それじゃ、広島・長崎も無かったんだ！アウシュビッツも無かった！あなたは、そう言いたいのですか！？」とナジッたことがあった。思えば、もう８年前の出来事になる。そんな僕が、南京大虐殺なんて、実は無かったんだよ」と南京事件を信じている人に言うと、８年前の僕と同じ反応を示す人が多く、少し可笑しくなる。しかも感情的に反発する人がほとんど。よくよく考えてみると、８年前の自分は、「南京」を広島やアウシュビッツと同列に疑いも無く思い込んでいただけに過ぎなかっただけ。誰がそのように自分に刷り込んだのだろうか？中学校の歴史の先生？テレビのドキュメンタリー？新聞？親や兄弟？友人？たぶん、要素は複合的なのかもしれない。しかも、「南京」だけでなく、「旧日本軍の・・・残忍さ」のイメージが周辺から形成されていったような気がする。そう言えば、高校の日本史の先生が、遠藤周作の「海と毒薬」の話を数回に渡って聴かせてくれたっけ。
